Notes on whitespace

Whitespace is the quietest part of design and the part people notice most when it’s missing.

Measure

Keep lines around sixty to seventy characters. Eyes tire on long lines, and a narrow column makes even ordinary prose feel considered.

Rhythm

Give headings room above them and less below. The page then reads in chunks, the way you’d speak: a pause, then the next thought.
